Jones Lake State Park has released its April program itinerary. Learn about snakes, take a hike and catch fish.

The park is located at 4117 NC 242 North, Elizabethtown. Events are free and open to the public. For information about the programs, call 910-588-4550.

April 1: Snakes

Ever wonder what snakes’ species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger at the Visitor Center in exploring the various snakes in this area and the other unique species found throughout our great state. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor Center at 10 a.m.

April 22: Carolina Bay Hike

Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest at Jones Lake State Park and “discover” why this environment is unique. Discussion on the hike will include the flora and fauna of the forest, and why Carolina Bays is important. Participants should meet at the Visitor Center at 10 a.m. and bring bug spray, water, and hiking shoes.

April 29: Carolina Bay Lake Fishing

Join a Ranger to fish the mysterious waters of a Carolina Bay Lake. Fishing equipment and bait will be provided if needed. A valid North Carolina Inland fishing license is required for those individuals ages 16+. Meeting location will be at the Jones Lake Visitor Center at 10 a.m. Registration is required and limited to 14 people.
