Bryon-ScottBladen County’s finances have all been accounted for and the staff has been cooperative according to Byron Scott of the Thompson, Price, Scott and Adams CPA firm.

Scott pointed out that the new way of collecting vehicle taxes provided a one time spike in the county revenues.  A new law provides that all vehicle taxes are collected when owners purchase or renew their license plates.  The county realized a $718,000 budget surplus, thanks to the new vehicle tax collection program.

“Nothing jumps out” related to expenditures according to Scott.

The county’s 2012 fund balance was 17%, that increased to 27% at the end of the 2013-14 fiscal year and according to Scott, “puts the county in line with the state average,”

The current year tax collection rate was near 93%.

Scott told the governing board, his opinion was an unmodified opinion, the highest “we give in the year of our audits.”

He complimented the staff on their cooperation during the audit process.
