DUBLIN – Bladen Community College Trustee Dennis Troy has been recognized by the Board of Directors of the National Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) for his service and leadership.
Mr. Troy has been a member of the national board of the ACCT for the last three years. Previously, he served for three years on the national organization’s board of directors for the Southern Region, and on the ACCT Executive Committee. Troy is a long-standing member of the Bladen Community College Board of Trustees and is currently serving as chairperson. He is a strong advocate for the college and its mission.
The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern the community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond. The ACCT’s stated mission is to foster a greater understanding of and appreciation for community college boards, support boards in their efforts to develop public policies focusing on meeting community needs, help build board governance leadership and advocacy capacity through in-service education and training programs, and support boards through specialized services and programs.
“Community colleges play a major role in educating and training the workforce and that role will only grow in the coming years,” stated Troy. “Serving on the national ACCT Board of Directors gave me an opportunity on a broader scale to know the needs of students and opportunities available to them to get on the right track to earn an education and gain employment afterward. It was an honor to serve and I am humbled by this recognition. “
BCC President Dr. Amanda Lee remarked that Mr. Troy’s dedication to student learning and student diversity has been an asset to the national board and the local board of trustees.
“The board is fortunate to have had Mr. Troy as a member who brings such a strong record of service to his community and Bladen Community College,” Lee said.
An East Arcadia native and graduate of East Arcadia High School, Troy attended Cape Fear Community College, where he earned a diploma in machining. Soon afterward he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a medical corpsman on flying status. Later, he graduated from Fayetteville State University with a B.S. degree in sociology and a minor in criminal justice.
Troy also took special education courses from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with the intent of pursuing a career in education. While in college he worked part-time with the Postal Service. After teaching for several years including a period at Bladen Community College, he was hired full-time by the Postal Service in 1983. Two years later he was promoted to postmaster, a position he held until his retirement.

Bladen Community College Trustee and Chair, Dennis Troy, recently received special national recognition and a plaque by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) for his leadership and service. Mr. Troy served on the ACCT national board since 2014 and his term ended in December 2020. Community professionals, business officials, public policy leaders, and leading citizens are selected to serve on the ACCT national board providing guidance to community colleges and decisions that affect more than 1,200 colleges and over 11 million students annually.
