The Bladen Community College Board of Trustees had the chance in February to be more involved with a trip to Capitol Hill. Not all the board members were able to make the trip, but Bladen County’s school for higher learning was represented on Capitol Hill in February.

Mr. Dennis Troy and Dr. Frank Gemma, two Bladen Community College Board of Trustees went to the Community College National Legislative Summit February 13th through February 16th in Washington, DC.

Dennis Troy serves as the Chairman of the Bladen Community College Board of Trustees and also serves on the 2016-2017 Board of Directors for the Association of Community College Trustees. Dr. Frank Gemma serves as the Vice-Chair of the local board in Bladen County.

Troy and Gemma both said they learned a lot by going to the summit. They both shared some of the things they learned with the other trustees.
The two were able to meet with elected officials such as North Carolina Senator Tom Tillis. Troy and Gemma also met Chuck Todd, moderator of NBC’s Meet the Press.

Troy did announce that President Trump does have the Pell Grant program on the table for review. The Pell Grant helps a large majority of the students at Bladen Community College according to Troy.
