Please Tell Your Story on #CareForNC Day

William Sellers with Eastepoint released the following statement. We hope you’ll save the date for a very special day this Wednesday, September 18— #CareForNC Day!

Since June, the #CareForNC campaign has been telling stories about the public behavioral
health system from every corner of the state.

As a way to bring YOUR stories to life, we’re asking you to mark your calendar to join the effort
on Wednesday, September 18. We encourage you to share this information with your
organizations, your advocates, and anyone else who might want to participate.

As part of the #CareForNC Day celebration, we hope you will do two things on September 18:
1. Use your own social media channels to join the conversation with the #CareForNC
hashtag. We hope you use this opportunity to share how the public behavioral health
system has cared for YOU (or someone you know). You can look at the CareForNC
Facebook and Twitter channels for inspiration!

2. Submit a letter of support to your lawmakers. Don’t know who represents you? There’s
a website that can help! Insert your zip code into the “Find your Legislator” tool here. Be
sure to find your NC House member and your NC Senate member. Then, draft an email
telling your story. Feel free to use the resources found on the website
(www.carefornc.org) and within the toolkit (www.carefornc.org/toolkit) to help you as
you craft your letters. We’ve put together some additional ideas of what to include in
the bullets below.

• How have you seen the public behavioral health system impact your life, or the
life of someone you know?

• What would be at risk to you if the system went away?

• What is the one thing you hope lawmakers consider as they have health care
discussions in the state capital?

• We recommend ending with a line similar to this: “We hope you consider my
story [or “X’s” story] and the stories of so many others as you lead our state
through this time of change in North Carolina’s health care landscape. The
system that cares for me and my community cares for North Carolina.”

Join us in telling your story to make a difference on Wednesday, September 18.
