In a delightful twist of roles, students took charge as judges while adults battled it out in the 2nd Annual Spelling Bee hosted by the Bladen County Education Foundation. Held at Bladen Community College on Tuesday, April 23rd, the event kicked off at 6 p.m., promising an evening of spelling prowess and good-natured competition.

The unique event, which saw students turning the tables to evaluate adults on their spelling abilities, brought together participants from various walks of life, all eager to showcase their linguistic skills. Hosted by the Bladen County Education Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization committed to supporting public schools and educators in Bladen County, the Spelling Bee served as a platform for both entertainment and philanthropy.

The competition was fierce, with teams vying for the coveted title of spelling champions. Ultimately, it was the “Purple Storm” team from West Bladen High School that emerged victorious, clinching the first-place position. Bladen County Schools, in a media release, congratulated the team on their impressive achievement, acknowledging their triumph at the Bladen County Educational Foundation Adult Spelling Bee.

Following closely behind, the “Community Spellers” secured the second-place position, while the “Word Warriors” from East Bladen High School claimed the third-place spot, adding to the excitement and camaraderie of the evening.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, Bo Barefoot, a local business owner, took on the role of emcee, bringing his unique flair and humor to the event. Dressed as a bee, Barefoot kept the audience entertained with his witty commentary, ensuring that laughter filled the room throughout the competition.

The success of the 2nd Annual Spelling Bee not only showcased the linguistic talents of participants but also highlighted the spirit of community and support for education in Bladen County.
