Local baseball player Ricky Hester was assigned to Salem, Virginia of the Class A Carolina League. Hester had been playing for the Daytona Beach Islanders of the Class A Florida State League.
There was a two car collision at the intersection of NC 87 and SR 1004 in Tar Heel. The accident sent five occupants to the hospital.
