Here were some of the stories making news in Bladen County in 1973:
• Carolina Power and Light was planning a formal study of a site on South River in Sampson County just over the Bladen County line as a location for a steam-electric generating plant. A group headed by Dr. Amos Johnson of Garland was formed to lobby against this effort.
• Milton (Bud) Fisher Jr. of Elizabethtown was ordained to the ministry at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church.
• Two persons were arrested for bootlegging in Bladen County.
