A great article … “Fabric of community: The legacy of the Jewish population in rural southeastern NC”, first appeared in the Border Belt Independent, and recently reprinted in the News Reporter (Whiteville) paper … Highly recommended … Included is a detailed report of how and when members of the Jewish faith came to Bladen, Columbus and Robeson counties … mostly clothing retailers in the area … Among the families were the Leinwand’s of Elizabethtown … all about their successes and how some were affected by big box stores … and how some continue to contribute in the area today … good reading…

Tobacco in our area is beginning to be harvested … My back hurts when I see a patch … It had a huge financial impact in our area for many years … Harvesting is mostly by machinery today … a back-breaking way to make ‘grocery $s’ years ago … In our area, lugs have been harvested … Nice looking crop…

Kept up with MLB action last evening … Nationals vs Mets. Columbus County native Mackenzie Gore was in control of the first 4 innings for the Nationals … 0-0 game … Lefty Gore had control issues in the 5th inning … issued 2 walks and a homer … trailed 3-0 … Was relieved after 5 complete innings … Final score … Mets win 5-1.

Finally, thanks to the individual who discovered my card in the cash machine, late yesterday … where I left it … I made contact, via the internet, with the individual who found it and had reported it to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department … It was recovered and reported to law enforcement before I realized I didn’t have it … Thankful…

I think often about folks dealing with tough times, many times they cover it well … Many times we just have no idea…
