Vickie Ransom, a sophomore at Pembroke State University, was crown the 1971 Clarkton Tobacco Festival Queen. Miss North Carolina was in Clarkton to crown Ms. Ransom.
Jane Ross of Elizabethtown was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the National Association of Home Economists meeting in Miami, Florida. Ms. Ross was recognized for her work in establishing- a viable 4H program in Bladen County.
Football games scheduled for Friday night was East Bladen-Hallsboro, Bladenboro-Shallotte, St. Pauls at Clarkton and Tar Heel at Red Springs.
