Cape Fear Valley Bladen County Hospital is restricting children under age 12 from visiting the hospital to help minimize the spread of flu and other flu-like illnesses, the system’s chief executive officer Michael Nagowski announced Monday.

Also, the emergency department is limiting visitors to one per patient, Nagowski added.

“If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat or runny nose, please do not visit friends and family in the hospital,” Nagowski said. “Hand washing remains the number one way to reduce the spread of infection.”

Cape Fear Valley Bladen has placed hand hygiene stations throughout the hospital and outside every patient room for use. The hospital reminds visitors to rub the sanitizer all over your hands, especially under your nails and between your fingers, until your hands are dry.

“We apologize for any inconvenience these restrictions may cause you, your family members and friends,” Nagowski said. “However, we feel these restrictions are necessary to safeguard the health of our patients, staff and visitors.”
