Elizabethtown, NC – May 24th, 2024 – Bladen County Public Library is thrilled to announce its Summer Reading Kickoff Event and Summer Reading Program for 2024, featuring a series of engaging activities designed to foster a love of reading and learning among children in the community.

The Summer Reading Kickoff Event will take place on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Bladen County Public Library located at 111 N. Cypress St., Elizabethtown, NC 28337. This year’s kickoff will feature a special presentation by Fresh Start Rescue Inc., a registered 501c3 reptile rescue organization from Wilmington, NC. Fresh Start Rescue Inc. is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, unwanted, or injured reptiles, and they will showcase various reptiles including Monchi, Kibo, and Odin. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to learn about these fascinating creatures and the important work of the rescue organization.


The Summer Reading Program 2024 will run from June 17th to July 18th and will include events at three library branches:

1. Bridger Memorial Public Library – 3:00 PM
– June 17th, 24th
– July 8th, 15th

2. Clarkton Public Library – 3:00 PM
– June 18th, 25th
– July 9th, 16th

3. Bladen County Public Library – Elizabethtown, NC – 10:00 AM
– June 20th, 27th
– July 11th, 18th

These sessions will offer a variety of interactive and educational activities aimed at promoting reading and literacy among children. Each event is designed to be fun and engaging, ensuring that participants enjoy their summer while continuing to develop their reading skills.

“Our weekly Storytimes have now ended for the school year. We are transitioning to Summer Reading.,” explains Sheila Nance, Bladen County Public Library Director. Bladen County Library’s goal is to inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning, and we have an array of activities planned that will captivate and educate young minds.
