A Staff Report

In a world where kindness and acceptance are increasingly vital, Bladen County Schools (BCS) is once again taking a stand against bullying by participating in Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This powerful initiative, initiated by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, continues to gain momentum year after year, as it serves as a tangible representation of the universal message that our society wants to promote: kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent bullying.

Unity Day is set to take place on Wednesday, October 18th, and BCS invites all members of the community to join in supporting this cause. The call to action couldn’t be simpler – wear and share the color orange. This vibrant hue symbolizes unity and the commitment to creating a world where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.

As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. By wearing orange on Unity Day, you’re not only making a statement against bullying but also demonstrating your dedication to fostering an environment of kindness and acceptance within your community.
Bladen County Schools is no stranger to the importance of promoting these values. As part of their ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and welcoming educational environment, BCS has introduced the “BCS Word of the Week.” Each week, the district shares a new word, one that encapsulates a key aspect of their mission to promote kindness and combat bullying.

The Word of the Week for this special week leading up to Unity Day is “Friendliness.” Students and staff across the district are encouraged to embrace this word and put it into practice. Be friendly to everyone, because, as the old adage wisely reminds us, those who you think deserve it the least sometimes need it the most.

The school district’s commitment to creating a culture of acceptance and kindness is commendable and sets an example for communities everywhere. By embracing these core values, they send a powerful message that resonates far beyond the classroom walls.
Unity Day and initiatives like the BCS Word of the Week remind us that preventing bullying isn’t just about raising awareness; it’s about actively promoting kindness and inclusion every day. As we approach Unity Day, let’s make a collective effort to create a world where everyone feels valued, accepted, and supported. By wearing orange on October 18th and practicing friendliness throughout the week, we can take meaningful steps toward this noble goal. Together, we can make a difference and build a more inclusive society, one kind act at a time.
