Delaying for several minutes to allow all members to be able to sign in telephonically, Chair Louella Thompson called the February 9th Board of Elections meeting to order at 5:08pm and turned the floor over to Board Director Christopher Williams to present any updates he may have.

Mr. Williams informed the members that generally, staff is merely performing routine monthly maintenance activities, and being proactive in preparing for the upcoming municipal elections.

He stated that the biennial address mailings he mentioned at the January meeting are dribbling in and being processed as they come in. He also informed the Board that directions from the State Board of Elections are that that local boards are to take no action on Change of Address cards until March 1st.

Tentative election plans from all local Boards are due in to the State Board no later than August 12th. Of the local elections, there will probably be only one “special election,” that being for the Elizabethtown Council seat of the late Richard “Dicky” Glenn.

In other news, Mr. Williams informed the Board that they had received a $50,000 grant from the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). This is a timely receipt of funds because new batteries are needed for the vote tabulating machines; each machine requires two batteries, and the total cost is going to be some $8,000.

Responding to a question about filing dates this year, Mr. Williams stated that this year’s filing dates for all municipal seats that do not elect by district, including for that special election, are from noon on Friday, July 2nd to noon, Friday 16th.

Having no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:32pm
