Boost the ‘Boro, Inc. announced Monday that Kailey M. Gause and Kasee Lynae Singletary, both graduates of West Bladen High School, are the recipients of the 2020 Boost the ‘Boro Scholarship.

According to Sunday Allen, Scholarship Committee Chair of Boost the Boro’, “our final decision was difficult for our four person committee to make. All of the applicants this year are excellent students and are outstanding young people. It is gratifying to know that Bladen County has such a high caliber of students and we are honored that we are able to assist these students, as they continue with their educational efforts and ultimate career choices.”

Kailey M. Gause graduated from West Bladen High School with a cumulative GPA of 3.9. Kailey will begin her college studies this fall by attending Bladen Community College to receive her Associate’s Degree in Nursing and continue her studies at UNC-Pembroke to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Kailey’s career goal is to obtain her Masters in Nurse Midwifery.

Kailey feels her college experience will provide her with the educational requirements for her career choice, but also assist her in communication, leadership and problem solving skills, all necessary and important skills to make a positive contribution within her chosen profession and back to her community. During high school, Kailey was a member of the Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, HOSA, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Government, Youth Legislative Assembly and was a West Bladen cheerleader.

Kailey also started “Kailey’s Kloset” at West Bladen High School during her senior year that provided students access to school supplies and other personal products they may need on a grab and go procedure.

Kailey is the daughter of Tammy and Jeff Gause.

Kasee Lynae Singletary graduated from West Bladen High School with a cumulative GPA of 4.15. Kasee will begin her college studies this Fall at N.C. A&T State University and pursue a degree in Nursing. Kasee’s career goal is to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Kasee describes herself as being one who likes to help people. She has been involved in assisting primary school students learn to read and also helped in coaching a basketball league. Kasee has chosen to pursue her career in the medical field as a result of a positive experience she had observing nurses help her grandfather when she was younger.

During high school, Kasee was a member of the Beta Club, Knights College Ambassadors, Key Club and HOSA. She was also Vice President of the Student Government Association during her senior year and played both basketball and softball throughout high school. During her free time, Kasee likes to read, go to the beach, binge watch Netflix and visit with her grandmother in the nursing home.

Kasee also had various part-time jobs during high school and feels this experience taught her the importance of working under pressure, customer interaction and helped her develop her interpersonal skills.

Kasee is the daughter of Bridgette and Borisce Singletary.

“We couldn’t be more proud of these two individuals, said Terry Nance, president of Boost the Boro, “and are happy that we will perhaps play some small part in helping each of them pursue their life goals. We will be following them as they pursue their careers and hope each will choose to bring their exceptionalism and leadership, in some way, back to our Bladen communities.”
