FAYETTEVILLE – The Cape Fear Regional Theatre (CFRT) is thrilled to unveil its much-anticipated lineup for the 2023-2024 season, featuring diverse plays and musicals sure to delight audiences of all ages. 1. “The Play That Goes Wrong” (Sep. 07 – Sep. 24, 2023)

Kicking off the season with side-splitting laughter, “The Play That Goes Wrong” takes the stage, offering a riotous theatrical experience. Directed by Laura Josepher, known for CFRT’s successful “Murder for Two,” this comedy follows the misadventures of the Cornley University Drama Society as they attempt to stage “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” The show quickly descends into chaos, complete with an unconscious leading lady, a hilariously uncooperative corpse, and actors stumbling over everything, including their lines. With relentless humor and unexpected twists, this production guarantees a night of non-stop laughter.

2. “The Addams Family A Musical Comedy” (Oct. 19 – Nov. 05, 2023)

Just in time for Halloween, “The Addams Family” brings its macabre charm to the CFRT stage. Directed by Mary Catherine Burke, this musical comedy presents a night of delightful mayhem as Gomez Addams faces the challenge of keeping a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. When their daughter, Wednesday, falls for a “normal” young man, the Addams’ eccentricities collide with those of their guests during a fateful dinner. Featuring music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and based on characters created by Charles Addams, this production promises to be a spooktacular delight for the whole family.

3. “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” (Dec. 02 – Dec. 17, 2023)

As the holiday season approaches, CFRT presents a heartwarming classic with “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” This hilarious play, directed by Jennifer Sell, follows a couple’s struggle to organize a church Christmas pageant. Things take a surprising turn when they cast the Herdman kids, renowned for their mischief. Witness the chaos that ensues when the Herdmans come face-to-face with the Christmas story, bringing laughter and joy to audiences of all ages.

4. “Cinderella” (Jan. 31 – Feb. 17, 2024)

In a dazzling transformation, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” enchants audiences of every generation. Directed by Tom Caruso, this beloved musical brings to life the timeless tale of Cinderella, complete with magical on-stage transformations and unforgettable tunes like “In My Little Corner” and “Impossible/It’s Possible.” With a dash of fairy-tale romance, this enchanting production will surely captivate hearts, young and old.

5. “King Liz” (Mar. 27 – Apr. 07, 2024)

Shifting gears, CFRT presents “King Liz,” an edgy comedy that brings the excitement of March Madness to the theater. Directed by Andres Munar, this play delves into the world of sports agents, centering around Liz Rico, a woman making her mark in a male-dominated industry. When she meets Freddie Luna, a talented but volatile high school basketball superstar, she sees an opportunity to elevate their careers. However, navigating the challenges proves to be a challenging task. With compelling performances and fast-paced banter, “King Liz” explores themes of gender, ambition, and the pursuit of success.

6. “Sister Act” (May 08 – May 26, 2024)

The season concludes on a high note with “Sister Act,” a musical filled with soulful music and uplifting performances. Directed by CFRT veteran James Clark, this show follows the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva in protective custody in a convent after witnessing a crime. Disguised as a nun, Deloris breathes new life into the church choir, inspiring her newfound sisterhood. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, “Sister Act” is a joyous celebration of friendship, empowerment, and the power of music.
