Fayetteville, NC – Cape Fear Valley Health System is set to host a special hiring event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Auditorium, Rooms A and D. This unique event aims to connect applicants with a paid opportunity to work and train, kickstarting their healthcare careers.

This hiring event focuses on recruiting individuals for the Certified Nursing Assistant I (CNA I) program. Successful applicants will receive paid on-the-job training, starting at $14 an hour. The CNA I program offers a 15-week training course, with participants working as comfort runners during this period. The program covers the cost of training, including books, uniforms, and testing fees.

Upon completion of the program and securing full-time employment as a Nursing Assistant I (NA1), candidates can look forward to an excellent benefits package. The initiative is part of Cape Fear Valley’s commitment to creating pathways for employees, with free training as the initial step.

Applicants are required to be high school graduates or GED recipients and commit to a 20-hour weekly work schedule (Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). More scholarships and tuition assistance programs are available for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) seeking further education.

Britt-Angela Ward, Talent Acquisition Executive, expressed the motivation behind the event, stating, “It’s to allow those who couldn’t [find] a way into a healthcare career. The hiring events are also a way to introduce the CNA I program As it’s a 15-week program, the hiring events are planned to be held quarterly.”

Cape Fear Valley Health System aims to fill 20-25 CNA positions through this initiative. Ward highlighted the roles of the trainees during the 15-week course, mentioning that they would serve as comfort runners, assisting with tasks such as getting ice cubes for patients, helping nursing assistants, etc.

Candidates interested in applying can visit capefearvalley.com/careers and look for the Nursing Assistant I – Comfort Runner position. The application process seeks individuals capable of working in a fast-paced environment and dealing effectively with people. Potential candidates will be asked about their motivations for pursuing a career in healthcare, as one of many questions.

The training for CNAs will encompass clinical classroom sessions and on-the-clock shadowing of nurses, all conducted in-house.

Ross emphasized the program’s broad impact, stating, “It doesn’t have to be a CNA career in healthcare,” while Ward added, “This program will open doors.”

The one-year employment commitment is tied to the free class and test, with flexibility for individuals pursuing further education. Cape Fear Valley Health System envisions creating more job opportunities in the community and inspiring the next generation of CNAs through this event and program.
