On February 2 nd, 2022 Deputies with Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team responded to a call for assistance from the Bladenboro Police Department in reference to a silver BMW that had eluded them. Bladenboro Police Officer stated that he had last observed the silver BMW turn off North Carolina Highway 211 onto Center Road. A Deputy with Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team was in the area of Center Road and Cabbage Road when he observed a vehicle traveling towards him at a high rate of speed. Suspect was clocked on radar at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect vehicle fled and Deputies lost sight of the suspect vehicle in the downtown area of Bladenboro. The perseverance of the Deputies and Bladenboro Police Department Officers continued and a Bladenboro Police Officer was able to locate suspect vehicle again at North Carolina Highway 410 and North Carolina Highway 242. Deputies and Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle at which time the suspect vehicle fled South on North Carolina Highway 410 towards Chadbourn at a high rate of speed.

Bladen County Deputies observed the suspect’s vehicle being operated in a careless manner. Deputies were able to deploy a tire deflation device on North Carolina Highway 410. The tire deflation device was successful, which slowed the suspect’s vehicle down. Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were then assisted by Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Chadbourn Police Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The suspect’s vehicle collided with a tree.

The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A brief foot chase occurred before the suspect was apprehended by Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified at Dylan Blake Burnett of Elizabethtown.

Dylan Blake Burnett was charged with Felony Flee Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Driving while License Revoked, Driving While Impaired, Resisting Public Officer, Careless and Reckless Driving, Possessing Fictitious Registration Plates, Fail to Register Motor Vehicle, Speeding and received a $7,500 secured bond. The perseverance exhibited by the Bladenboro Police Department and Bladen County Sheriff’s Office lead to the arrest. The quick response and cooperation of the Chadbourn Police Department, Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol were pivotal in the apprehension of this fleeing suspect. Sheriff McVicker is very pleased with the perseverance of the local law enforcement agencies and the quick response and
assistance from other outside agencies.
