Elizabethtown, NC – The October 2023 Board of Education Meeting was an eventful evening filled with recognition, accomplishments, and key decisions. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from this important gathering.

The meeting commenced with a patriotic touch as students from Dublin Primary School proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a respectful and uplifting tone for the proceedings.

The Board began the evening by acknowledging and celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of the cafeteria staff at Dublin Primary School. They were awarded a perfect 100 Sanitation Rating, a remarkable achievement that highlights their dedication to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety. This recognition underscores the essential role these unsung heroes play in ensuring the well-being of students through their commitment to hygiene and sanitation.

Continuing the theme of recognition, educators who recently completed Rethink Education’s Blended Facilitator Pathway were honored. These educators successfully completed the program and earned their Blended Facilitator’s Badge, signifying their commitment to innovative teaching and their readiness to lead students in a digitally enhanced learning environment. This achievement reflects their dedication to advancing educational excellence.

A moment of celebration occurred when Dana Melvin was announced as the 22-23 Sandhills Regional CTE Director of the Year. This accolade is a testament to her exceptional leadership and dedication in the field of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Dana Melvin’s commitment to preparing students for future success in their careers and academic pursuits was recognized and applauded by the Board, an achievement that deserves resounding congratulations.

In addition to recognizing excellence, the Board addressed important matters related to education in the county:

– Tar Heel Construction Project: The Board received updates on the Tar Heel Construction Project, an endeavor that will significantly impact the educational landscape. This project promises to provide state-of-the-art facilities and enhance the learning environment for students.

– Fieldhouse/Storage Building Plans: Proposed plans for a fieldhouse and storage building were reviewed. These facilities will likely serve as vital additions to the educational infrastructure, offering students and the community valuable spaces for various activities.

– School Improvement Plans: The Board approved all 12 of the presented School Improvement Plans, reaffirming its commitment to ongoing academic growth and achievement.

– Property Resolution: A significant decision was reached with the approval of a resolution to offer the Plain View Primary School property to the County of Bladen. This resolution has the potential to influence future development in the area and reflects the Board’s dedication to responsible stewardship of resources.
