Spread the love

Are you looking for a reason other than a birthday to enjoy America’s favorite cake?  Look no further, for tomorrow is National Chocolate Cake Day!

If you’re anything like me, then your Mom had a chocolate cake recipe that she was known for.  And, if you’re lucky, she passed that recipe on to you (sorry guys, I’ve been sworn to secrecy!).

The first “Chocolate Cake” recipe on record looked quite different from what we know today.  Ms. Eliza Leslie published “The Ladies Receipt Book” in 1847.  Her recipe called for chopped chocolate instead of the cocoa powder that we typically use today.Need ideas on how to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day?  How about these…

Breakfast:  Mix up some chocolate cake batter, but instead of baking a cake, make pancakes!  Top them with a drizzle of caramel and a dollop of whipped cream.

Lunch:  Breakfast leftovers!

Dinner:  Bake up one of your favorite homemade recipes, or buy some good ol’ Betty Crocker, and have dessert for dinner!

What are some of your favorite chocolate cake recipes?
