The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and honored Desmond Bryant and his family. His parents, Alton and Lillian Bryant, were present to accept the plaque.

Bryant suffered a torn pectoral muscle and will miss the 2016 season while the injury heals. He still held popular football camp for youth this summer at East Bladen High School

Chairman Russell Priest said he has known the Bryant family for a number of years. He said when Desmond and his brother, Brenton, came to East Bladen High School they were both excellent athletes.

Priest said the brothers were brilliant students and both attended Harvard University. He said while attending Harvard, the brothers played football.

Desmond was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and each year he brings a group with him to East Bladen High in the summer and teaches a football camp to the youth. Priest said in addition, every year, Bryant and his family also buy shoes for every junior varsity and varsity player.
