Patricia Hammonds with the Lumber River Workforce Development Board announced this week a former youth program participant has graduated with a doctorate. Dr. Alexis Lacewell was an in-school participant under the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Program. She won the NC Governor’s Award for Outstanding Youth in 2014.

 

Lacewell is a 2014 graduate from East Bladen High School. She attended college at Appalachian State University and majored in Exercise Science. She attended graduate school at Duke University, studying Physical Therapy. She completed her doctorate program on April 23, 2021.  She graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy on May 8, 2021.

 

Dr. Lacewell explained in an email how much she appreciated the LRWDB Youth Service Program and gave a special thanks to Katrina Harbison, Director of Bladen Community College’s Youth Program.
