North Carolina Cooperative Extension’s Bladen County Center in conjunction with the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club hosted the annual Bladen County Farm City Banquet on Tuesday morning at the Powell-Melvin Building on Smith Circle in Elizabethtown. Local peanut farmer and advocate, Dan Ward, was this year’s guest speaker.

Ward updated those in attendance about progress being made in the peanut industry. This year has been bountiful for peanut crops according to Ward’s report.
“Eat more peanuts,” the local farmer told those in attendance.

Sponsors for this year’s event include the following: North Carolina Cooperative Extension – Bladen County Center, Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club, Bladen County Farm Bureau, Smithfield Hog Production, First Citizens Bank, Bladen County Farm Bureau Insurance, Cape Fear Farm Credit, Camp Clearwater, Four County EMC, Hardee’s, McDuffie Services, Southeast Farm Equipment-Whiteville, Star Communications, and Thompson Small Engine Repair.  Bladen County 4-H youth served the guests as the events’ waiters and waitresses.
