The N.C. Department of transportation announced Tuesday afternoon that Elwell Ferry was closed because of high water levels. Portions of Bladen County received as much as 3 inches of rain over the weekend.
The cable-operated ferry that crosses the Cape Fear River and connects N.C. 87 and N.C. 53 connecting Carvers Creek and Kelly had reopened Jan. 9 after being closed for about a week because of high water levels.
The ferry is located at 2700 Elwell Ferry Road.
There was no announcement when the ferry would resume operation.
