September 2019 Bladen Community College Small Business Center Seminars

Bladen Community College, Dublin, NC -The Small Business Center (SBC) of Bladen Community College is offering many great no-cost seminars and webinars in September.

The “Entrepreneurs’ Academy” starts today at the Main Campus in Building 3 on Mondays from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. Participants who attend at least five of the seven part series will receive a certificate. The series will meet on the following dates:

  • 09/09 – “How to Start a Business”
  • 09/16 – “Increase Your Credit Score for a Business Loan”
  • 09/23 – “Financing Your Small Business”
  • 09/30 – “Your Small Business Taxes”
  • 10/14 – “Marketing Your Business”
  • 10/21 – “How to Find Your Customers”
  • 10/28 – “How to Write a Business Plan”

 

The Small Business Center is continuing outreach efforts with counseling at the Bladenboro branch of the Public Library. The Library is hosting director Todd Lyden on Wednesday September 11 from 1-3PM. Finally, the SBC theme this month is “Disaster Preparedness,” which is timely considering the start of hurricane season with Dorian. The first offering will be the monthly conference call to assist small businesses marketing in rural areas. Register online for the information to participate on Friday September 13th from 10:30-11:30AM for “Rural Marketing Roundup: Communicating Your Recovery After Disaster” to talk about how you can let others know the status of your business after a disaster or emergency.

Two webinars/livestreams also deal with the theme: “Disaster Preparedness for Churches and Non-Profits” will be offering on campus in Building 2, Room 202 on Tuesday September 17 from 6:30-8:00PM as well as online via webinar; and, “Legal Steps for Closing a Business” will be offered at the Small Business Incubator in Elizabethtown at 207 E. Broad St. on Thursday September 19th from 1:30-2:30PM as well as online via webinar.

The following week will close out the month with “Emergency Ready Your Business” at the Bladen County Public Library on Thursday September 26th from 6-8PM and the brand new seminar “Using Drones for Pre/Post Disaster Recovery for Small Business” will be held on the main campus in Building 2, Room 202 from 9AM-12PM on Saturday September 28. Drones flew more than 200 missions and captured 8,000 pictures and videos of the damage and flooding left behind by Hurricane Florence in North Carolina.

Air Probe UAV will explain in this seminar how to use drones as a tool for pre-disaster preparation planning and then for post-storm response and recovery to support small business continuity planning.

 

All seminars are open to the public and provided at no charge due to special funding arrangements for the Small Business Center and Bladen Community College.
