Filing period for elections closes, May primary races set

The election filing period has ended and the several Bladen County residents have chosen to place their names on the ballot.

Contested races of interest include the Bladen County Sheriff’s seat which will feature incumbent Sheriff Jim McVicker facing off against Billy Ward in the May Republican primary and Hakeem Brown will face off against Gary Edwards for the May Democratic Primary.

In the Bladen County Commissioner District 3 race, incumbent Russell Priest will face off against fellow Democrat William Whitely of Tar Heel in the May Democratic primary.

In the Bladen County board of Education District 1 race, Sabrina Murchison, a Democrat will face off against incumbent Democrat Gary Rhoda in the May Democratic primary.
