The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. Thursday as the temperature may drop below freezing overnight.

The warning cover Bladen, Robeson and inland Pender counties.

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Areas of frost are forecast before 8 a.m. Thursday. Otherwise, Thursday’s conditions are expected to be sunny with a high near 67. The temperature is expected to be in the upper 30s Thursday night before a bit of warming trend for the weekend with high temperatures in the mid 70s and lows around 50.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
