Spread the love

George Aubrey Monk of Elizabethtown, North Carolina, passed away on January 7, 2019, at the age of 65.

He bravely confronted life with a devotion to family and friends. George was a straightforward and passionate man who loved to have a great time. George had childhood memories from St. Joseph, Missouri, especially South end, and San Bernardino, California. He graduated in 1973 from Savannah High School located in Savannah, Missouri. He served in the Navy as a mineman stationed in Charleston, South Carolina and on the Island of Crete. After returning home, he attended Missouri Western College where he met the love of his life, Peggy Snodgrass Lugenbell. They were married on November 10, 1989. George humbly worked any job to provide for his family. His life took a different course after attending a Promise Keepers meeting in February of 1996. God spoke to his heart and asked him to move his family to Elizabethtown, North Carolina. While working at Smithfield Packing in Tar Heel, North Carolina, he attended Bladen Community College to pursue welding. He loved welding and worked as a pipe man. When Dwayne, his son and Bill, his brother introduced him to golf, he found his second love. He wanted to be on the golf course any day the sun was shining. Even his hospice chart has the line item, “Had to reschedule patient golfing.”
