Taylor Faircloth bombed the nets with five 3-point field goals and led Midway to a 63-40 Four County Conference girls’ basketball victoryTuesday night over visiting West Bladen.

Faircloth finished with 24 points, and point guard Amber Poole added 14 for the Lady Raiders.

Sophmore Laikyn Pait tossed in 8 points to lead the Lady Knight scoring. Sophmore Kassidy Anderson followed with 6 points, and senior teammate Delasia Richardson grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds and scored 6 points.

Senior Miriam Mendoza finished with 5 points and dished out 4 assists. Senior Breanna Jackson pulled down 11 rebounds for West.

Jackson popped in a 12-foot jumper and dropped in a transition lay-up to give the Lady Knights an early lead. Richardson converted a Mendoza assist into a lay-up and a 6-3 edge.

Anderson sank 2 free throws, and Richardson turned another Mendoza feed into a lay-up and a 10-7 lead. Pait banked in a runner, and Mendoza worked the give-and-go with Jackson for a lay-up that kept West even 14-14 at the quarter break.

Faircloth’s initial 3-pointer of the game capped a 7-0 Midway run that produced a 21-14 lead. Sophmore Akira Grimes banked in a turn-around for West, Richardson put back a rebound, and Anderson pumped in a 12-footer to trim the margin to 23-20.

However, Faircloth beat the halftime buzzer with a 3-pointer for a 26-20 Midway lead.

Poole drilled a 3-pointer and tallied the first 9 points of the third quarter to push the Lady Raider lead to 35-20.

Mendoza banked in a 10-footer, Pait flipped in a 14-footer, and Logan Autry, Alanna Ludlum and Mendoza added free throws in the period, but Midway maintained a 42-27 lead at the quarter break.

Grimes turned an Evelin Ortiz assist into a lay-up, and Pait tossed in a 12-footer, then turned an Autry feed into another basket.

Faircloth answered with a trio of 3-point shots to grow the Midway lead to 56-33.

Anderson banked in a 6-footer, Ludlum rattled in a 3-point bomb, and Jenna Dove put back a rebound for the final West Bladen points.

The Lady Knights are now 8-5 in the Four County and 12-11 overall. West Bladen will host East Bladen Thursday night.
