NC Office of the Governer  NC Gov. Pat McCrory has advised federal officials that North Carolina has joined several other states in refusing to receive any more Syrian refugees.

“North Carolina has a proud tradition of providing a hand-up for those in need, including international refugees,” said Gov.  McCrory in a written release. “However, because President Obama has increased the number of refugees from Syria coming into the United States from 2,000 to 10,000 and because of the terrorist attacks in Paris and the very real possibility that one of the terrorists entered France as a recent refugee, I am requesting that the federal government cease sending refugees from Syria to North Carolina.”

McCrory joins numerous other state governors in calling on the federal government to provide more information regarding the refugees.

After the recent terror attacks in Paris, at least half of the governors in the United States, including at least one Democrat, have all made moves to temporarily halt receiving the refugees, according to reports.

According to reports, U.S. lawmakers say that with no established relationship with the government of Syria, vetting applicants seeking to enter the United States is a difficult task. Fears are high that ISIS members could be embedded among the refugees.

In a written statement, Gov. McCrory said North Carolina should not receive any additional refugees until he is satisfied with the thoroughness and effectiveness of federal background and security checks conducted on refugees entering the United States.

In addition, Gov. McCrory has directed the NC Department of Public Safety and the NC Department of Health and Human Services to work with federal officials on the matter.
