Former long-time Bladen County resident Dr. Lynn R. Welborn will once again be the featured guest of local NPR affiliate WHQR’s January edition of the Prologue Book Club. The event is this Monday, January 13th from noon-1pm at the WHQR studio in downtown Wilmington. There will be a discussion of his second book “Crazy Beach-Disc II-Crazier Beach” with an in-studio Q&A session with the audience as well. The book continues to follow the characters from Disc I and details some of the author’s misadventures growing up in the area in the 1960s and 1970s.

You are invited to be a studio guest and participate in the discussion and Q&A.

If you can’t attend you can see the interview on WHQR’s website.

Crazy Beach Disc –II-Crazy Beach is the second novel in a series written by L.R. Welborn of Wilmington, NC. Its 2019 release follows in the footsteps of last year’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated Crazy Beach-Disc I. The crazy beach referred to in the title is the author’s hometown of Carolina Beach in the late 60s/70s. Part of the action takes place on the boardwalk, chronicles the author’s misadventures growing up, and features several iconic Carolina Beach characters and landmarks. Each chapter is titled as a musical track in this literary soundtrack of summer.

The wacky, sometimes touching adventures of Lenny’s wrecking crew continue in Disc II. The group of mischievous teens you met in Disc I has moved into their high school years and fully embodies the exuberant decadence and unbridled enthusiasm that comes with a taste of freedom. Big adventures await…an attempt at hitchhiking cross-country, treasure hunting with the Ft. Fisher Hermit, and of course, young love. “Like On the Road” and “Stand by Me”, CBII captures the spirit of what it means to be young.

Crazy Beach has been featured in the Wilmington Star-News, Encore, and Salt Magazine.  Welborn was also the featured author on WHQR’s Prologue Book Series in January 2019. The book’s Facebook page is Crazy Beach Novel.
