The Kelly community has been heavily damaged by Hurricane Florence and is bracing for flooding from the Cape Fear River, Black River, and Colly Creek.

Aaron Robinson with the Kelly Volunteer Fire Department advised residents who have evacuated to remain where they are, and those who have not evacuated to heed the warnings until the river starts receding.

“A lot of roads are closed and some roads are beginning to wash away,” said Robinson.

The community has many homes that are currently flooded and trees are down. A mandatory evacuation remains in effect for the Rowan and Kelly communities. The Cape Fear River is forecast to crest Thursday through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Bladen County received more than 35 inches of total rainfall from the storm.
