Spread the love
By Nicole Smith

Ever wish there was a day dedicated to reminding you not to sweat the small stuff?  To not stress over things that have already happened and can’t be changed?  Today is that day.  I introduce you to “National Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day”!

Celebrated every year on February 11th, the holiday promotes a positive attitude, even when things might not be going your way.  This can cover many situations when we need to be reminded to take a moment and just breathe.

While the day’s history is unknown, the phrase “don’t cry over spilled milk” has been around for centuries.  “No weeping for shed milk” is one of the oldest references by James Howell in 1659.  Though the saying may have changed over time, its original intent remains.

Just like spilled milk that can’t be taken back, we must not worry about the things that we have no control over.  That may be easier said than done, but we all deserve a day to just… let it be.

So, what can you do to celebrate National Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day?  Anything that makes you feel at peace.  Get a massage, take a hot bath, meditate…  Simply enjoy your day.

Today, when stressful situations occur or accidents happen, ask yourself…  Will this issue matter in a day?  Or even in a week?  If the answer is no, then it’s just spilled milk.
