Bladen County Schools and Elizabethtown Christian Academy proudly announced the winners of the 2024 Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District contests. These competitions, sponsored annually by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, include poster creation, essay writing, public speaking, and computer slideshow presentations, with this year’s theme focusing on “The Living Soil.”


In a remarkable display of talent and creativity, students from various schools throughout the county were honored for their outstanding contributions. Bladen County Schools announced their winners. At Bladenboro Primary, Paisley Crawford clinched first place in the 3rd Grade Poster category, while Amy Rojo Munoz from Bladen Lakes Primary took second place in the same category. Zoe Skinner, also from Bladen Lakes Primary, secured first place for the 4th Grade Poster. Notably, Kaylin Autry from Bladen Lakes Primary won the 5th Grade Poster category.

Further successes included Owen Hall from Clarkton School of Discovery, who won the 6th Grade Slide Show, and Georgia Lewis, also from Clarkton, who took home first place in the 7th Grade Essay category. Elizabethtown Middle School’s Kyzerria McKeithan triumphed in the 8th Grade Essay contest, while Sarahi Cuc Reyes from Tar Heel School achieved second place. Additionally, Luke Bridgers from Clarkton School of Discovery excelled in 7th Grade Public Speaking.


These first-place winners are now set to advance to the Area 7 competition, promising further achievements in the next round of contests.

Moreover, Jackson Bridgers from East Bladen High School was distinguished as this year’s Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District representative. He will attend the annual Resource Conservation Workshop, a week-long intensive study held in June at North Carolina State University, covering various conservation topics.

Elizabethtown Christian Academy also celebrated its achievers with Baylor Gooden and Ava Brisson, securing second place in their respective categories for the 4th and 5th grades. The academy expressed immense pride in these young representatives who showcased their school’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The community extends their congratulations to all students for their success and best wishes for those advancing to the upcoming Area 7 competition, reinforcing the district’s commitment to fostering an understanding and appreciation of natural resource conservation among the youth.
