BOLTON – About seven miles of U.S. 74/76 in eastern Columbus County will be milled, resurfaced and restriped under an $8.7 million contract the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded this week.
The section to be refreshed is roughly between N.C. 214 (Sam Potts Highway) in Bolton and Water Tank Road, near the Columbus-Brunswick County line.
The project also includes preservation maintenance and concrete deck and substructure repairs to a pair of the highway’s bridges spanning Livingston Creek.
The project will require the Wilson-headquartered contractor, S.T. Wooten, to institute daytime lane closures, but will be prohibited from closing any lanes from Friday afternoon until early Monday morning in the summertime when beach travel is higher.
Work can begin in April and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025.
