NAKINA – Gary Parker fired in 19 points Tuesday night to lead Bladenboro to a 42-31 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Nakina.

Parker tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw in the opening quarter, and teammate Anthony Mitchell bombed in a 3-point shot, but Chase Clewis and Isaac Ward netted 2 baskets each as Nakina built a 12-8 lead.

The Bulldogs rallied in the second quarter as Parker sank a basket and 6 straight free throws. Center Deonte Lacy powered in a basket, and Walter Bealon made a free throw to trim the Nakina halftime lead to 20-19.

Lacy and Hezekiah Adams threw in 2 baskets each to spark a 12-4 Bulldog run in the third period. Mitchell and Parker pumped in a basket each as Bladenboro jumped in front 31-24.

Parker flipped in a basket and 2 free throws in the final quarter. Lacy popped in a basket and a free throw, and Mitchell nailed a 3-point shot. Bealon tacked on a free throw.

Lacy finished with 9 points for the winners. Mitchell followed with 8 points. Carter Lee led Nakina with 8 points, and Ward tallied 7 points.

Coach Phillip Penny’s Bulldogs improved to 7-3 and will travel to Tar Heel Thursday.
