 BLADENBORO – Shy’Ron Adams fired in 8 of his game-high 26 points in the final quarter as Bladenboro’s Bulldogs pulled out a 44-40 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory Thurday night over previously unbeaten Elizabethtown.
 
The Cougars took a 33-32 lead into the final period, but Adams tallied 4 baskets, and teammate Donavan Stone tossed in 2 more as the Bulldogs closed the game with a 12-7 surge.
 
Guard JaQuez McKoy pumped in 3 baskets for the Cougars in the final period, and Nysaan Wooten added a free throw.
 
Jaquez McKoy topped the Elizabethtown scoring with 19 points. Brady Hollingsworth followed with 6 points, and Ra’Sean McKoy, Malcolm Bolden and Nysaan Wooten totaled 4 points each.
 
Stone finished with 10 points to follow Adams in the Bulldog scoring column.
 
Adams threw in 3 baskets and a free throw in the first quarter as the Bulldogs edged ahead 12-10. Stone and Joshua Lewis dropped in a basket each, and Brycen Blackmon hit a free throw
 
Brody Hollingsworth worked the paint for a pair of Cougar baskets in the first quarter. JaQuez McKoy nailed a 3-point shot, Lefrederick Wooten flipped in a basket, and Nysaan Wooten made a free throw.
 
Adams and Bryley Williams bombed in 3-point shots in the second quarter. Stone tallied another basket, and Adams cashed in a free throw for a 21-16 Bulldog halftime lead.
 
Ra’Sean McKoy connected for a Cougar basket, and Lefrederick Wooten, Nysaan Wooten, Hollingsworth and Malcolm Bolden hit one free throw each in the second quarter.
 
JaQuez McKoy sparked a third period Cougar rally with a 3-point shot, 3 more baskets and a free throw. Bolden drained a 3-point shot, Ra’Sean McKoy popped in a basket, and Hollingsworth and Nysaan Wooten netted free throws as Elizabethtown trimmed the margin to 33-32.
 
Adams kept the Bulldogs ahead with 3 baskets and a free throw in the quarter, and Stone and Andrew Pait contributed a basket each.
 
The Bulldogs improved to 3-2, while the Cougars dropped to 4-1 in league play. Elizabethtown was playing without 2 starters and 3 other players due to the flu.
