The Bladen County Board of Elections office has been a busy place the past two days with eight candidates filing for municipal offices and races assured in at least four contests. Filing ends Friday, July 19 at noon, according to the Elections office. The filing fee is $5.
Tim Tart and Jon Hall filed Thursday as candidates in Clarkton to oppose incumbent Arthur Whedbee.
In Bladenboro, incumbent Patsi Callihan filed for re-election Wednesday. On Thursday, challengers Joey Todd, Stephanie A. Thurman and John (Mac) Bowen added their names to those seeking three seats on the Board of Commissioners. Incumbents Gene Norton and Sarah Jane Benson filed earlier this month.
Also filing Thursday was East Arcadia commissioner Rhonda Blanks Hall.
On Wednesday, Linda Croom filed for a seat on the Clarkton Board of Commissioners. The seat is currently held by Lawrence McDouglad, who had not filed as of Thursday.
White Lake will have contests for mayor and three seats on the Board of Commissioners. Incumbent H. Goldston Womble Jr. will be opposed by Gray Marshburn in the mayoral race. Incumbents Tim Clifton and Tom Riel have filed for re-election to the board and will be joined on the ballot by challengers Jay Young and Dean C. Hilton. Incumbent Tracey Trivette had not filed as of Thursday.
Elsewhere, no one had filed for mayor or three seats on the board in Tar Heel.
The election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5. Voters must be registered by Oct. 11.
Elections will be held in Bladenboro, Clarkton, Dublin, East Arcadia, Elizabethtown, Tar Heel and White Lake.
