The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) announced the Elwell Ferry is temporarily closed on December 7, 2023. Friday, Faye Boney with NCDOT confirmed the ferry closing has been extended due to high water and maintenance. Following is the update released today.
CLOSED:
US Highway 701N:
All traffic has been routed to the new bridge. The closure has a WIDE LOAD TRAFFIC RESTRICTION.
Elwell Ferry:
Closed starting at 12:00 pm December 7, 2023, and will re-open at 7:00 am, January 19, 2024, for High Water.
