A new Netflix scam may soon be coming to an inbox near you. Scammers are reported to be using a phishing email to try to trick unsuspecting victims into giving them their credit or debit card information.

A police department in Solon, Ohio is reporting on their social media that residents there have received the phishing email and is warning people to be cautious when responding to emails that request personal information or credit card, debit card or banking information.

People are reporting receiving a notice in their inbox that their Netflix account has been locked due to some type of billing issue. In order to unlock the account, the victim is instructed to click a link and update their account information, according to Ohio Police Department.

The Netflix website offers the following safety tips when dealing with these types of emails:

*Never give your Netflix login information or financial information to anyone after following a link in an email. Instead, open your web browser and type www.netflix.com into your browser to ensure you are at the legitimate Netflix page.

* Never follow links contained in emails or text messages or open attachments in emails you were anticipating receiving.

*If you think you have received an email that was not legitimate, follow the steps found on www.netflix.com to forward the email directly to Netflix.
