With wildfires scorching several counties in Western North Carolina, and dry conditions occurring in Bladen County, Bladen County Fire Marshal Bradley Kinlaw said there is no burning ban in effect locally.

“We are encouraging people to be very careful when burning,” said Kinlaw.

He added many people find it hard to believe that the county is actually dry following the flooding that occurred after Hurricane Matthew. He said with the low humidity and the wind, if there is a fire burning, it can get out of control very quickly. Kinlaw said that several woods fires have already ocurred in Bladen County.

Kinlaw said that many North Carolina Forest Service resources have been deployed to the Western part of the state to assist in fighting the forest fires. He said a request for volunteer firefighters to assist in the efforts in the mountains has not been received.
