Daniel F. McLaurin Jr. of Wilmington — known to everyone as Danny, Danny Mac, Dad, or Pop Pop — passed away suddenly at his home on December 7, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Sharon McLaurin; their two children Margaret McLaurin Kotz (Andy) and Phillip McLaurin (Hannah); his granddaughter Eleanor Kotz; his parents Daniel “Dan” Franklin McLaurin Sr., and Frances Haley McLaurin; his siblings Michael McLaurin (Jenny) and Kelly McLaurin; nieces and nephews; his uncle William Haley; and his best friend, Travis.

Danny was born March 18, 1961 in Elizabethtown, NC, and grew up in White Oak, NC. He moved to Wilmington to attend UNCW and has been in Wilmington ever since. He met his wife Sharon while they both worked at Sears during college, got married, and started their family.

He was a police officer with the City of Wilmington for five years before joining FedEx, where he worked as a courier for 31 years. He retired in September 2022 and spent this last year with his family, particularly spending time with his beautiful granddaughter Eleanor who brought him immense joy and was the light of his life. He was so excited to welcome his second grandbaby in the spring.

Danny lived a life full of love. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, Pop Pop, son, and friend, would always help out a friend or family member in need, and was never one to hold a grudge. He loved taking care of Eleanor, dropping her off and picking her up from preschool, and spoiling her.

The family would like to thank all the first responders as well as all of the love, support, and prayers that the family has received during this difficult time.

His loss is a deep tragedy, and he will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew him. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Pine Valley Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
