Spread the love

Even though summer is coming to a close as the fall semester rears its head, there are still a couple of weeks to make the most of this season. Some teens will take this time to relax, go on vacation or hang out with friends. Many others will look for jobs to make some money before school starts, and most need help knowing where to start.

Finding a place of employment is only half the battle. Factors such as hours, pay, benefits, etc., will also influence your selection process. Available jobs range from an intern for BladenOnline to a stock person at Dollar General; it’s down to the individual to decide where to apply. Below is a list of establishments that take teen employees in Elizabethtown and White Lake.

1. Vineyard Golf at White Lake, (910)-247-6132.

They are at 4723 US Highway 701 N, Elizabethtown. It’s a par 72, 18-hole golf course between Elizabethtown and White Lake. Cart person(care for golf carts), pro-shop employee(18+), and cooks(full-time job) are positions available during the summer. Employees work six-hour shifts from seven am to one pm and one pm to seven pm. The schedule is flexible as they work with the employee on their availability to come in; you can even ask to perform the whole 12 hours. The starting pay is $10/hour, and you get paid bi-weekly on Thursdays. Full-time, part-time, and seasonal/temporary positions are available, but most apply for part-time. If you are someone who likes to golf in their free time, then this is the job for you as employees golf for free.

2. Domino’s Pizza, (910)-872-0907.

It is located at 1008 W. Broad St, Elizabethtown. They also deliver within the town into White Lake; get more information on their app or by calling. Jobs up for hire during the summer at Domino’s are delivery drivers, CSRs – they are phones, deal with the customers in the front and the window, and assistant manager positions(18+). The hours the employee has work are flexible, barring the weekends as it’s their busiest time. The starting pay is 10/hour unless you’re an assistant manager, as they can make up to $15, and you get paid bi-weekly. All three positions(full-time, part-time, and seasonal) are available, but most go for part-time, even in the summer. Employee benefits include health, dental, and vision if they are full-time such as managers and drivers. 3. Walmart, (910)-862-8424.

Located at 1347 W Broad St, Walmart is the one-stop shop for most locals. Work positions fluctuate based on need, but summer employees are typically hired for gardening and stock. An employee will work one of the three shifts within the 24-hour window but only eight hours at a time. The schedule is very flexible as it’s planned to fit around the worker’s availability within the employer’s boundaries. The starting rate is $14/hour, and payday is every other week on Thursdays. It’s very often that summer brings in people for work, especially college students. Students will stay employed during school and can either work during breaks or transfer to a nearby Walmart. All full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers will get benefits after a certain working period, including discounts, 401k, stock, insurance coverage, etc. Look for more information on their website linked above.

4. Food Lion, (910)-862-479

On 1202 W Broad St, where most buy frozen foods, is Food Lion. It’s an establishment that hires for full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions. Summertime jobs are based on availability, but most often, it’s cashiering. The seasonal or summer workers are usually college students looking to make a couple of dollars before returning to school. These employees can apply for leave of absence so their employers can put their jobs on hold until next year or when they wish to work during holidays/breaks. Workers are paid bi-weekly on Wednesday with a $10/hour starting pay. Workers must have a year or 500 hours of work-time before applying for benefits unless it’s a full-time employee as they get them immediately. Check out their site for more information on Food Lion careers.

5. Barefoot, (910)-991-3094

Kelly & Bo Barefoot own three Elizabethtown establishments that cater to teen employment. There’s Barefoot Brew at 119 W Broad St, Barefoot’s Sandwich Shoppe at 106 MLK Dr, and Barefoot Boujee Boutique at 109 N Poplar St. Since the opening of these stores, it has been a hotspot for teenage workers, especially during the summer. Summertime jobs within one of these businesses include a barista, retail salesperson, food prep, or register operator. The Brew is 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with morning and afternoon shifts. The Sandwich Shoppe is from 10 or 11 am to 3 pm. The Boutique is a 10 am to 6 pm shift. All stores are open Monday through Saturday except the Brew, as it’s open Sundays from 8 am to 5 pm. The schedule is flexible, as you can be placed at one of the establishments based on your availability. Employees make $9-$12/hour plus tips and get paid every two weeks. There are full-time, part-time, and seasonal jobs, but most apply for part-time. “We’re most individuals’ first job, and it is normally the younger adults who are in school, whether it is high school or college, that are covered on their parent’s insurance,” said Bo Barefoot when asked about benefits. Due to their ability to place an employee exactly where it works for them regardless of their school or sports schedule, they can have a steady paying job. If you’re a teen looking to gain work experience, call the number above to speak to Bo about a job right for you.

Whether you’re looking to fight boredom or for monetary compensation, the establishments above and many more will certainly do that for you. Look out for jobs that interest you and start applying today.
