The Southeastern Times newspaper for Bladen County in the 1970s and 1980s published recipes regularly. This was submitted by A .Leightin and published on May 31, 1989.

Cornbread Special

1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup self-rising flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup milk
¼ cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 can drained or 1 cup whole kernel corn

Mix all ingredients well. Put in greased 9 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 450 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
