The Bladen County Board of Commissioners received recognition and gave recognition at their Monday, August 16, 2021 meeting.

 

Tim Holloman, Executive Director of Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority, presented a plaque to the Board of Commissioners and the citizens of the county in recognition of Bladen County’s 50th Anniversary as a Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority Member.

 

The mission of Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority members is to “provide and assist in providing water and related services that enhances the quality of life in the region.”

 

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Charles Ray Peterson accepted the plaque on behalf of the County. “Thank you for the recognition,” Peterson replied after receiving the plaque.

 

The Lower Cape Fear Water & Sewer Authority Board of Directors holds a regular Board Meeting on the second Monday of every month. Bladen County residents Patrick “Pat” DeVane and Wayne Edge are members of the Lower Cape Fear Water & Sewer Authority Board of Directors.

Next on the list, County Manager, Greg Martin announced, Sheila Nance has been named Bladen County Library Director.

Nance began her new duties on August 9, 2021 and will be responsible for overseeing the libraries in Elizabethtown, Clarkton and Bladenboro.

Martin told the commissioners, Mrs. Nance is a lifelong resident of Bladen County and a graduate of Bladenboro High School. She obtained her Master of Library Science degree from East Carolina University and has worked with the Bladen County School system for 23 years. Most recently, she served as the Librarian – Media Specialist at the Clarkton School of Discovery.

“We’re very pleased to have Sheila join the Bladen County team,” said County Manager Greg Martin in an earlier statement. “She brings knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as professionalism and a commitment to customer service – qualities that are important to our organization. Library patrons and the citizens of Bladen County will be well served by Sheila’s leadership in this important role.”

The new Bladen County Library Director stated in her announcement, “I am very excited about my new role with Bladen County as the Library Director. I have heard wonderful things about the staff and I have personally loved visiting the library over the years with my children. I think Bladen County Library, including its branches in Clarkton and Bladenboro, has limitless potential in the services it provides to residents. I look forward to sparking a love of reading with the youngest of our patrons and encouraging that continued love of reading with adults as well.”

Nance thanked the Board of Commissioners and received a round of applause.

Nance and her husband Terry have three children and reside in Bladenboro. They are active members of New Light Church and of the civic organization, Boost the ‘Boro.
