Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute Article 21, Chapter 143.215.C, the Town of Elizabethtown is required to issue a press release when 1,000 gallons or more of untreated wastewater reaches the surface waters of the State. The Town of Elizabethtown had a discharge of untreated sewage from the Lower Street lift station located off Lower & Broad Streets. The overflow was first discovered on October 2nd, 2015 at 8:25 p.m., and lasted approximately 38 minutes after discovery. The sewage overflow entered Jailhouse Branch. The overflow was a result of heavy rain in a short period of time.
