[slideshow_deploy id=’146028′] The Bladen County Shrine Club was busy on Wednesday as they kicked off their annual fall fish fry event. A large number of automobiles were lined up at lunch time for the drive-thru line at the Food Lion parking lot in Elizabethtown. People were standing in line in Bladenboro for a plate of fresh hot fish and all the trimmings.

Donnie Williams, who was volunteering at the Bladenboro Fresh Foods location, said “We’ve got a lot of deliveries going out during the lunch hour.”

Philip Little was volunteering at the Food Lion parking lot location in Elizabethtown.

He said the Shrine Club is expecting to cook more than 2,000 pounds of fish between the two sites.

Donald Melvin, president of the Bladen County Shrine Club said, “We are hoping to sell about 2,500 between both places.”

Melvin emphasized the proceeds from the annual fall fundraiser goes to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

“It’s a good thing. Most of the people that go there (Shriners Hospital) don’t have to pay,” said Melvin.

He said if the family needs a place to stay while a child is receiving treatment, the Shriners can assist them with that, as well.

The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy also volunteered to help the Shrine Club.
