An alarm from a smoke detector awakened a person who was able to escape from a house fire Monday in Elizabethtown, according to a Facebook post by Elizabethtown Fire Department.
Fire departments from Elizabethtown, White Lake, Dublin and Clarkton responded to a structure fire at 100 Jones Street in Elizabethtown.
Upon arriving on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from the gable ends of the home and that an occupant had been working to bring the fire under control, the Facebook post said.
Firefighters quickly controlled the fire before the entire home could be affected.
Firefighters reported that the occupant was asleep at the time of the fire and credits having working smoke detectors with early detection of the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the occupant. The name of the person was not available.
