Spring has sprung, and with it comes the opportunity to entertain family and friends. The Elizabethtown Foxglove Garden Club hosted its spring meeting at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church. Social Influencer Meredith Lewis gave a PowerPoint presentation on arranging tables attractively and decoratively for those special occasions in life.

Meredith is a devoted wife and a “stay-at-home” mom who graduated from Vernon University. She resides in Wilmington, NC, where she is the Cape Fear Garden Club President. She explained she wasn’t comfortable with the “Influencer” title because she sees her number one job as only influencing her children to make the right decisions. The only reason she created an Instagram account was to keep up with her children; however, her home decorating and gardening skills have made her famous on the social platform with almost 29 thousand followers.

Local garden club member, Joy Grady, said, “I follow Meredith on Instagram and reached out to her hoping she could come and speak at our meeting because she is so impressive.”

With assistance from her daughter, Sanders, Meredith gave the local garden club tips on what to include when table scaping. Meredith gave the items needed for table scaping: tablecloths, chargers, placemats, plates, seasonal china, napkins, silverware or flatware, glasses, unique details, and flowers.

“You can change vintage material to tablecloths,” Meredith noted, “Estate sales are an excellent place to find tablecloths and vintage materials.”

As she passed around a tray of monogrammed napkins and decorative napkin rings, the ladies discussed shops that offer monogramming services. Meredith shared the names of the Monogram Shop in Wilmington, and Sasha Nicholas and others chimed in, saying, “Jane Priest with Mainstreet Treasures in Elizabethtown offers monogram services too.”

Meredith continued festive chargers are at Hobby LobbyAmazon, and other home decorating stores. Flatware is necessary for setting the table; Meredith’s favorite flatwares are King Richard’s Silverware and a bamboo set she has acquired.

To make a beautiful table setting, you do not have to buy new things; Meredith said, “I shop in our own house for unique items to add something special to the table.” She showcased the china she uses that was passed down from her mother and her mother-in-law.

However, Meredith added, if you do go shopping, “If you buy all the things that you love, it will all go together, and it will be fun!”

In the presentation, Meredith gleefully said, “Flowers are my favorite part! I’ve been paying attention to smart women in my church and garden club and learning from them how to grow and use flowers.”

During her closing remarks, Meredith invited the garden club members to the 2023 Azalea Garden Tour, which is part of the annual North Carolina Azalea Festival. The tour is from April 14 through April 16, 2023, the weekend after Easter.

The spring meeting committee members that organized the fanciful event were Joy Grady, Paula Greene, Eileen Leinwand, Tillie Clark, and Trish Inscoe. The committee decorated different tables at the church to showcase the different seasons and how tables may be decorated. The photos in this post showcase the committee’s talents and treasures.

The summer Elizabethtown Foxglove Garden Club meeting is scheduled for June 24, 2023.
