RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured inNCDOT Now, the department’s weekly newscast.

Labor Day Travel

To help ease travel over the holiday weekend, the department is suspending most construction along interstate, U.S. and N.C. routes starting today and running through Tuesday evening. Drivers should be aware that they may encounter narrowed lanes or traffic shifts even when work is not taking place, and that work zone speed limits are still in effect.

Before heading out of town, check road conditions at DriveNC.gov for the latest updates.

In addition, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s Labor Day Booze It & Lose It campaign will have increased law enforcement patrolling for drunk drivers, with checkpoints and stepped up patrols in all 100 counties.

2019-2020 State Transportation Map

While you’re on the road this holiday weekend, why not check your route with the new 2019-2020 State Transportation Map?

The new map can be ordered online or by calling 1-800-847-4862 (VISIT NC).

Maps are also available for free at welcome centers, rest areas and NCDOT offices across the state. First published in 1916 and updated biennially, the state map is NCDOT’s most popular publication, with 1.25 million copies having been printed this year.

Governor’s School Supplies Drop Off

This week, more than 1,000 school supply items were delivered to students in New Hanover County schools, one of the areas most affected by Hurricane Florence.

The supplies were donated by NCDOT employees as part of the Governor’s Annual School Supply Drive.
